I wanted to thank the members of the Exeter Golf Course for letting us use the hill all these years for sledding.
There is no more sledding at the course.
Over the holiday I got a call from Pete Kennedy “‘Hey can I borrow some sleds?” “Sure let me find them first, call you back” It didn’t matter that our sleds have somehow disappeared( I am ready for beach fun requests) Pete called me later, to say the hill was closed. It wasn’t much of a hill but when the kids were little it was fun.
I only just completed the “investigation” as to why it is closed, vandalism. I got a full report from Paul Scafidi this morning. It was substantive and it probably took some time. So, no more sledding.
Too bad .
We really have no vandalism problem, it’s pretty rare.
There is nothing wrong with calling the police to check out kids that may be up to mischief. You could do what adults did when I was young and handle it yourself too.Meaning you can speak to them as an adult should. I frankly would appreciate it in Summer on the Exeter waterfront. Our harbor master has his boat messed with from time to time. I have found some honking rocks in my moored boat. One year a rock broke a window , it was wicked expensive and a pain to replace.Take ownership of our/your Community, it’s a good thing.
We need a new place for sledding.
Mike
I remember the goal used to be to get to the stone wall that marked the start of the driving range. The only damage we might have done back in the old days (late 80s, early 90s) was to leave a bit of a groove across the fairway on 1. And if your opening drive couldn’t get over the area we used, maybe golf wasn’t your game.
Sad to see the club having to do this to protect themselves.
