First Friday Coffeehouse June 3rd 2011

Musicians, poets, artists of a different color, gardeners able to get their gardens in after a long stretch of rainy weather:

The First Friday Coffeehouse is pleased to announce the return of a joyful string band “Deep Hole Road”, featuring Sharon and Sue on fiddles, and Nick and Phil on guitars and mandolins. They have a traditional sound but play an eclectic mix of traditional and contemporary folk, blues, Celtic, and country music. The band is full of surprises and encourages the audience to sing along to popular songs. Their song selection ranges from Dylan to The Band to Richard Thompson to The Carter Family. Please join us for another memorable night of music and dance (for those who want to dust off their dancing shoes).

We also have a special guest poet this month, Ms. Diana Durham, who hails from England, has several poetry collections in print, and among other artistic endeavors, participated in a performance poetry group entitled Angels on Fire. Diana has recently written a collection of sonnets, and will be performing some of these works at the coffeehouse. She has a wonderful performance voice, and the sound of her voice alone can’t help but draw you into her poetry. More about Diana follows

Diana Durham is author of two poetry collections: ‘Sea of Glass’ (Diamond Press, London), and ‘To the End of the Night’ (Northwoods Press, Maine,winner of their annual competition) and the non-fiction ‘The Return of King Arthur: finishing the quest for wholeness’ (Tarcher/Penguin 2004). She speaks and runs workshops on the Grail/Arthur myths and the art of consciousness. Her poetry has featured in numerous journals, in the UK and USA, including Orbis and Mankato Review and anthologies. Diana was a member of the London poetry performance group Angels of Fire, appearing with them at the Royal Festival Halls Voice Box. In New Hampshire she founded 3Voices three women writers who received state funding and performed state-wide. Current projects include a nearly completed new non-fiction book, a collection of 58 sonnets and an audio-play retelling of the story of Perceval & the Grail with the sorceress Morgana as the narrator, soon to be available on CD and as a download. Diana is currently a Visiting Research Assistant at the Brandeis Womens Studies Research Center.

First Friday Coffeehouse July 2nd 2010

Musicians, poets, summer revelers, stargazers, grounded artists, folks

somewhere in the ethereal:

This Friday, July 2nd,we’re bringing back once again the talented, eclectic

foursome Deep Hole Road. The band comprises two husbands on guitar (and

mandolin), and two wives on fiddle. Deep Hole Road’s sound and selection of

songs is diverse and infectious. They can gear you up with a rousing

rendition of The Band’s “The Weight”, and take you for a ride with a

spirited version of Richard Thompson’s “1952 Vincent Black Lightning”.

We’re also going to feature a mystery band and we’ll keep it a secret for

now. The music is a mixture of genres including pop, blues, rhythm and

blues, and ska. We’ll see what spirits we can muster up this coming Friday.

First Friday Coffeehouse March 5th 2010

Poets, musicians, gallivanteers with an increasing urge to dance to a fiddle

and a banjo:

We are back in the saddle with electric power, and it’s time to turn up the

lights and listen to some fine music from a string band foursome from the

Hampstead, Chester, NH neighborhood. The two guitar, two fiddle quartet,

Deep Hole Road, is scheduled to get us dancing on the Parish Hall floor this

Friday, and entertain us with some contemporary and traditional folk music.

Deep Hole Road has swung by the coffeehouse for the last two months and are

being received very warmly. They have a music recipe guaranteed to raise

your spirits. They closed the Mardi Gras evening in February with a rousing

rendition of Hank Williams’ Jambalaya.

We’re also featuring a passionate poet, and steady patron of the First

Friday Coffeehouse, Ed Pacht. Ed has an uncanny ability to write

spontaneous poetry and capture a fellow performer “in the moment”, and then

share it with the audience in the same evening. Ed is a minister, and a

pacifist from the Rochester area. He shares his convictions to his grounded

self in his poetry with flare, joy, intensity, and a deep love for life.

Hope you can join us this coming Friday. BTW, the theme this Friday is St.

Patrick’s Day even though it’s celebrated in the not too distant future.

We’re always looking for a good reason/excuse to celebrate, taking liberties

to move the calendar around slightly to suit our needs.
