I read that the brain trust at Pease has decided to once again declare the airport FREE.
In order to try and run up some biz they are telling all military transport charters that landing is free. They need the numbers to get some grant to keep this white elephant going as an airport. They are poaching from Bangor, who cannot just drop the landing fees as they have regular carriers. Oh, they are also going to be “on the road” trolling for an airline, for who?
We have an airport in NH. It’s quite enough.
Instead the folks at Pease should be up in Westbrook ME inviting this poor company to come South. There is hardly any noise at Pease, from planes.
“Artel is a biopharmaceutical company that makes precision measuring instruments. Attorney David Bertoni said the company has been excluded from the negotiations intentionally, and it will consider suing Westbrook if the deal goes through.”
From the Portland Press Herald
http://www.pressherald.com/news/judge-delays-pike-civil-trial-to-review-deal-_2010-09-10.html
“The company was lured to the Five Star Industrial Park with promises from the city that the park would be transformed into a world-class technology center, Bertoni said. Artel’s president has said that blasting by Pike disrupts his company’s precision weighing devices.”
A gravel pit taking precedence over high tech manufacturing ? Of course Mike, plus it’s Pike for cripes sake.
Maybe you missed this story about a curtain rod company lured to NH by a State Program called “Open Invitation”. Really , you have to read this story from the Boston Globe. Out of eight prospects we got one taker.
” The company that moved north? Window Imagination Inc., which sells curtain rods. The two founders, Jayne and Thad Kallas, had once employed three people in Melrose. But with the economic downturn, they decided to lay everyone off and move to Lancaster, N.H.”
This is one of those posts that allows me to see if anyone cares, the link either gets clicked or not.
If you check the traffic at Pease which is easy using Flight Aware. You will see how little traffic(KPSM is the airport code) they have and then check their landing fees. .85 cents per 1000 max landing weight. Then check the weight on most of the general aviation planes landing . This place is a loser. If not for the Pilatus rental fleet the place would be dead quiet. Oh, by the way the company that is employing the P12 plane is awaiting some little jets . Maybe that’s the real reason they left Manchester for Pease.
