We got several new utility poles in neigborhood this week. They are much taller than the old ones. There was also alot of tree trimming preceding the pole work. Some of the tree trimming while necessary, makes some trees appear out of balance. I might just take the one in front of my home down as a result . Plant something new, further back from the right of way. The idea of Unitil is to move all the services further up the pole. All of it. It’s quite a job they figure to be done around here in the Fall. The new electrical power bundle will be stronger and able to take a limb laying on it without parting. Don’t forget to buy candles if you see them on sale. Will the Exeter Fire dept contract out this work to their call boxes or are we going wireless now?

Mike:
How come you didn’t report on the New Hampshire Public Utilities Commission hearing on the response of the utilities and government to the December 2009 Ice Storm at Exeter Town Hall last week? I’m not from Exeter and didn’t have a score card. I saw heads shaking and heard muttering about the Selectmen doing nothing. I needed an insider to explain Exeter politics to me. I figured the occasion would have been a natural for the Exeter Town Crier.
There were Pickpocket Road people there and elderly and retired folks from the trailer parks in town. And since Exeter and Hampton are Unitil company towns, former Exeter Area Chamber of Commerce President, Tracey McGrail didn’t miss the opportunity to sing Unitil’s praises. Plus Executive Councilor, Beverly Hollingworth, who divulged that her son works for Unitil, State Rep Schlachman and State Rep Casey were there too. I even think I ran right into Unisource President Todd Black on the way out. It’s one of the Unitil families of companies.
You know what I’d like to see? The Rockingham Planning Commission help local towns and cities create an electric coop or regional utility to replace Unitil and get those rates down once and for all. I’d also like to see the poles actually removed and the wires undergrounded in the center of Exeter and all along the NH seacoast.
We’re going to be holding a public demonstration at the Unitil Shareholders meeting on April 16th. CEO Schoenberger’s $300,000 bonus sent us right over the top. Everyone’s welcome. Watch the local papers for an announcement soon.
