I caught a bit of the  Selectmen  Meeting last night on the tube, yeah my two tv sets are tubes. They had to speak to  the  policy of using Town vehicles for personal use. A policy change like this always is interesting to me. They never speak as to why they are changing the policy. It’s not like we have a huge fleet of vehicles to manage. Somebody must have got bagged with a  car while engaged in personal business. They are not changing the policy, they are  establishing a policy because there was none.

Have you ever noticed the banners  on an industrial building  ‘ISO Certified” ? Ever wonder what that means? I have worked for many firms that were certified  or were working towards such certification. It can be a grueling process to codify all your processes. Literally  write down  everything that you do , establish a procedure for each function.

The benefit is that when Judy gets canned her replacement does not require  the ball peen hammer that  Judy took with her. That has huge benefits for the business and it’s product. Hammer? Yea, Judy found the  cover didn’t line up so good as the  widget screamed by  on it’s way to the cardboard box. So, about 20 years ago she  brought a ball peen hammer from home. She would  give every widget a tap with this hammer  and the cover would align and snap into place. Judy never thought to tell anyone about that  hammer. It is commonly referred to also as “tribal knowledge”. In this case Judy was  a tribe of one.

It should not matter that  Judy , or Bill  find  another career. The procedure for  example of calculating water  bills should be in a binder, not 4 sheets of paper taped to a wall.

ISO has a  complete package for  Government as well as Industry.

Fritz Weatherbee, we love him don’t we? So folksy.   Quintessential  NH.  Did you all  catch George Olson’s letter to the editor concerning the  phone at Town Hall?. I really liked his  signature. He added his tenure as Town  Manager.I hope that wasn’t an attempt  to impress, but rather to inform.
