When you are flipping around the dial( no more dials Mike) of the TV you must pause like me . You do right? You watch a little of the Preachers talking about gifts. Over the Holidays one of my sons turned me on to this article in the Atlantic. Now you get turned on too. It’s about Prosperity Preaching , it’s an eye opener.
“America’s mainstream religious denominations used to teach the faithful that they would be rewarded in the afterlife. But over the past generation, a different strain of Christian faith has proliferated—one that promises to make believers rich in the here and now. Known as the prosperity gospel, and claiming tens of millions of adherents, it fosters risk-taking and intense material optimism. It pumped air into the housing bubble. And one year into the worst downturn since the Depression, it’s still going strong.”

Meredith NH Mortgage Firm Closes ( local flavor)
Mike
UPDATE 5/5/10
This mess in Meredith is symptomatic of fundamental problems in NH. This story was buried,( ok not buried , but hard to find) the last few months and it is not about a poor couple from Kittery losing alot of dough. I have heard several people express the same scorn reserved for Madoff’s victims. “They should have known better” and more less artful comments. Hateful, really, that attitude.
This story should be about the Church that was getting 50K a month and why the State did nothing, sat on it’s hands.
This is about zero oversight and why gambling is of course out of the question, and why a major probe is necessary.
I hope the investigators are from another State.
The State Securities Commission fellow resigned?
Who belongs to this Church? Is that an issue?

Just got back from a visit to my parents in NC and this post made me think of something I noticed on Fox News (which my parents watch 24/7). Professor Glenn Beck, among others, preaches impending doom being wrought on America by the progressive liberal elitists we have in office now, then Fox cuts to an ad for a new book, The Edge of Armageddon by the Left Behind series wingnuts, then the next ad is selling gold coins………it seems like all three items dovetail rather nicely.
