You as the homeowner are responsible for your own pipe. Please stop using this dodge of “No decision” “Not enough information” to shirk your responsibilities. I cannot answer why the Town did not simply state the facts. These selectmen candidates are pandering to those that would live apart from the community. If this project is voted down we should all be ashamed. If it goes down big this blog will be undergoing a significant change in tone.

I have stated on my web site that the private lines from a house to the street are the responsibility of the homeowner, just as a water service is. The Public Works Department does not give you a response to a simple inquiry, and the current Board deferred discussion on the subject of the private lines. Sump pump discharge into the sewer system could have been eliminated when it was discovered during the Jady Hill survey. Another controversial decision deferred! My sump pump discharge goes to my side yard. Will I be charged as a private homeowner to have that diverted to the storm drainage line?
I do not question the need to improve our infrastructure, but I do have serious doubts about how this project was planned and concerns about how it was presented to the residents. The town made the Jady Hill project an issue when they chose not to be totally open about the project to the residents. Perhaps the next time they will address it openly. I am not pandering to anyone!

The town made it an issue because some people there are illegally dumping. Period. The town’s mistake was in not just getting bonding for the work, and then telling residents after the fact, “here’s your bill.” sorry, sir, but “doubts about planning” & “concerns about how it was presented” are not valid reasons to oppose something this important — unless you’re 12 years old. which you aren’t. Maybe you don’t intend it as such, but it really seems like “delay this stuff until I don’t live here any more” is the m.o. here. That’s how its been in this Town for the last 20 years with EVERY important long-term project.
Think anyone is going to want to buy your house when there’s an EPA lien against it?
