I have written before that we should arrange a short term lease with the former bank property on Lincoln St. Now with an effort to provide a real station, I say buy the land for a parking lot.Long term parking is an issue and requires a long term solution. That bank building is of no use to anyone.

Actually you have an idea there… keep the building and parking and use that as the Exeter Chamber office or an Exeter Visitors Center….

Mike,
This solution is being pursued by the Town Planner, Town Manager and myself. I assist an adhoc committee interested in a regional transportation center as a liason to our “government”. Currently the money granted to the town, through the CMAQ program, to buy the storage business property is still ours to use. We are in the process of re-assigning the grant to the bank site. To be really affective in taking the parking off the street, the building would have to come down.
The same group has applied to the DOT for a grant to purchase and renovate the baggage building next to Gerry’s. This would provide a weather protected waiting area, amenities and visitor information for the multi-modal transportation services already using that site. (bus, bikes, train, cars, pedestrians) This is the first phase in a plan to improve the train station area as one “gateway” to Exeter.

Yes, the building is of no use to anyone. It was purpose built. Please, let’s not have any pleas to save the building. Will there be a fee for parking ?
