River news

A hearing was held in Concord January 13 on the nomination of the Oyster River to protected status, it failed

Rep Bettencourt, 27, did not testify but signed in opposition. He is from Salem and the leader of  the majority.

This could be all procedure or  a roll back , but it bears watching and maybe a phone call  or two to support these designations going forward. The  Exeter Squamscott has yet to be called. We should support the Oyster effort too.

House leadership’s opposition is due to new provisions of the Comprehensive Shoreland Protection Act that would extend CSPA permit requirements to shorelands of all designated rivers, even those smaller than 4th order.
